🔶 Following the arrival of Pejman Jamshidi, a celebrity close to the Islamic Republic’s government institutions, in Canada, the “One Word” Lawyers Network, along with a number of members of the Iranian-Canadian community, has launched a civil campaign initiative to clarify and hold Canadian federal government officials accountable for this case and similar cases.

🔶 This civil action is a response to the legitimate and growing expectations of the Iranian-Canadian community, independent civil society organizations, human rights activists, and ordinary citizens and immigrants around the world, who are rightly sensitive and concerned about the unhindered entry and lives of individuals with a dark history of collaborating with the government’s propaganda apparatus and rentier economic networks, and with such serious criminal charges.

🔶 In this letter, for which an online campaign has also been created to support it; The One Word Lawyers Network and members of the Iranian Canadian community have called for accurate and transparent information about Pejman Jamshidi’s residency status, how he entered Canada, and the police precautions:

🔶 1- Under what legal status did Mr. Jamshidi enter Canada: temporary visa, work permit, asylum application, other immigration status, or other legal authorizations?

🔶 2- Were Canadian border or immigration authorities aware of the existence of a criminal record abroad at the time of his entry, and were any risk assessments or special conditions applied in this regard?

🔶 3- Regardless of visa type or residency status, is Mr. Jamshidi currently under any government supervision or control, given the very serious charge of sexual assault? In other words, has the government taken the necessary security measures in this regard?

🔶 Finally, it is emphasized that the legitimate and defensible expectation of the Iranian-Canadian community is that individuals who are seeking entry and residence in Canada with serious criminal charges and overt or covert affiliations to the Islamic Republic of Iran government cannot escape accountability and find judicial immunity in Canada simply by changing their location.
